Instagram stories as a new form of music multimediality

Instagram is in many ways a unique social medium, standing between the text and photograph-based ones (Facebook) and video-based ones (Tik-Tok). It is used mainly for spreading photographs and pictures, however, it also features a stories function, which allows sharing short audiovisual posts, which are available for 24 hours. It is noteworthy that many profiles related to music – be it those of individual musicians, bands, festivals, or fans – use this option rather frequently. It appears to be an easy way to promote an event or share an audience-made recording, without risking the financial loss possible with platforms enabling longer videos. This presentation aims to show what Instagram stories are posted by profiles related to Pol’and’Rock Festival. The analysis is based on many months of regular recording of these stories and focuses on what music is spread using the stories option. Hopefully, this will allow for wider insights into how a live music festival functions in the online multimedia sphere.
